We are beyond ecstatic to be celebrating our 19th Anniversary! For nearly two decades, TGC has been able to educate and learn from some of the most gifted, dedicated, and amazing staff and students. Without all of you – the students, staff, volunteers, and donors – we would not be where we are and able to make such a difference in the lives of our TGC family and the community at large!

This year proved just what we could accomplish together. Despite the ongoing effects and restrictions due to COVID-19, severe economic strains on families across Cambodia, digital inequalities to learning virtually, and other challenges, the students and staff have continued to flourish because of each of you. As we celebrate this year’s accomplishments and nearly two decades under our belts, please join us in congratulating the TGC family for their hard work, cooperation, and willingness to learn over the past year (as well as the past 19)!

Today’s hybrid celebration was joined by all our students, full-time staff, volunteers, and Director and Board Chair.

The three guiding pillars of TGC are education, leadership, and community! As part of these pillars, we pride ourselves in the fact that our older students mentor our younger students educating and empowering them to reach for the stars.

Our Opening Day for 2022 was on January 3rd, bringing with it excitement and a return to in-person activities! We were joined by 35 students, many of whom participated in the opening day ceremonies including traditional dances, music, and award presentations. For the 2022 academic year, we are excited to welcome 17 new students to Grade 5.

During COVID-19, many of the Grade 5 students did not learn basic subjects as the public schools were not equipped to run virtual classes. As such, as the Grade 12 students awaited their national exam scores many are volunteering to help address these gaps and teach Grade 5 students. Earlier than expected though, we learned that all of our Grade 12 students passed their national exams beginning their continued educational journey at universities or trade schools.

January was filled with much excitement and anticipation as we start to create our ‘new normal’ amid the pandemic. As the year continues, we are excited to support our students, both new and old!

Today, and every day, we support and stand up for girls, not just in the classroom, but by challenging societal and gender barriers that may challenge their dreams. This year for International Day of the Girl, we are calling for digital equality for girls and targeted investments in opportunities for them to use, lead, and design technology. COVID-19 has deepened the digital divide for girls’, yet we recognize that digital inclusion and literacy opens new opportunities for them and empowers them to reach new heights. Our goal is to continue providing quality education and meeting the basic needs of our students and families, all while reducing gender barriers that breed inequalities.

Follow us on social media to see how we are breaking down gender barriers and supporting girls’ access to, use of, and interest in technology, or learn how you can help!

Happy World Teacher’s Day to our teachers, volunteers, families, and educators in and across Cambodia and around the world! Despite the challenges that COVID-19 has created, each and every one of you has risen above the call of duty to ensure students receive a quality education and excel in a virtual classroom. Thank you to all the teachers – the educators that run the virtual lessons, the volunteers that dedicate their time, and the parents and caretakers (that are all too often forgotten) that have selflessly learned and aided their children in living and the pursuit of education.
Although no amount of gratitude can truly represent the dedication and depths that so many of you have gone through to help students, TGC, the community, and the world during the difficult times, we enjoy celebrating you today and every day. We want to thank you for being part of the reason so many marginalized students excel in the virtual environment, dream big, and go on to do extraordinary things.

Happy 18th Anniversary to our family! There are not enough words to express the gratitude and pride we have knowing that despite a global pandemic, digital inequities, and other challenges, we were able to celebrate our 18th Anniversary as a family (albeit virtually). Although 18 years of maintaining TGC is no small feat, we are forever grateful for the successes of so many of you despite the many roadblocks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After not only surviving the past year but flourishing, we are certain that no matter what challenges lay in our way, we will be able to ensure the safety and education of all who come through our doors! This past year has shown the power of the TGC family and the abundance of hard work and love that have gone into ensuring that operations run as smoothly as possible and staff, students and their families, and the communities are cared for. No matter the challenges that await we will continually put the education, safety, and health of our family and community at the forefront. We are thrilled at all the fantastic work, dedication, and extra time that the faculty, staff, and students have committed to making our mission possible. The community enrichment programs, virtual training sessions, and overall success in online education are just a few of the initiatives that have made this year a success.

It is through the extreme levels of commitment and dedication that each staff member, volunteer, student, family, supporter, and donor has for TGC that we have been able to continue our endeavors for the past 17 years and hopefully for many more to come.

As part of the government’s push for STEM education in schools, we conducted a school-wide survey and informal interviews with our students to gauge how STEM education is perceived at TGC. The purpose of this survey was two-part, (1) to inform the Cambodian government and education system on how to best implement STEM education and (2) to improve our educational offerings at TGC and better prepare our students for the digital age in which we lived.

The findings were used as a model for Cambodian STEM education, a starting place to explore gender barriers, a mechanism to design educational programs, and a means to seek funding. Our hope is by making the results public we can aid government education officials, public schools, and other NGOs how to best engage students in STEM education and ensure they are prepared to fill the considerable digital gap and job openings in STEM throughout Cambodia.

Results were updated in 2021.
